Project Coordinator

Organizational Influences

and Project Life Cycle

The business organization that you end up in will often dictate what role you play, and how you perform in that role.
A project manager may be doing many of the same things as a project coordinator — perhaps even all of the same things.
What is the difference?
It comes down to the authority and responsibility of the individual within a business organization and environment.
A project manager has more authority than a project coordinator. A project manager would be more likely to be found in a projectized organization or a matrix organization.
When projects are owned by functional managers, the project manager usually becomes a project coordinator, with less authority and less responsibility for the project and the people involved in the project.
Understanding the roles of a project manager and a project coordinator, and how they may be influenced by the organizational structure can be learned from online PMP training.
